MILES FROM KINSHASA IVRY

If anyone was ever going to bring back the balaclava, they were probably gonna have to do it as part of a icy, comically menacing music video cut to a sleek, invigorating new R&B track. Step forward Mr. Miles From Kinshasa. Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo but raised in South London, Miles has sprung out of the blocks with his debut track 'IVRY' and its aforementioned savagely well-observed visuals. The inspiration for 'IVRY''s pensive one-take comes from Miles' trips to Paris in his early years where he experienced the disenfranchised youth of France firsthand, a culture immortalized by the iconic film, La Haine. Musically it's a strutting sliver of bedroom-y funk and earwormy underground pop, driven by an array of squirming synthesizers, slick guitars and warped samples, and all tied together by Miles' confident croon. It's early days but Miles From Kinshasa looks like the real deal. - DC
